“On Nashata Pond” was created in partnership with the Voyageurs Wolf Project in Northern Minnesota. The Project is focused on understanding the ecology of Wolves in the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem. The Voyageurs National Park in Northern Minnesota bordering on Northern Ontario covers a vast area, known for its forests, waterways, as well as its wildlife. Its name commemorates the fur traders who travelled through this area. Done entirely in graphite and artist marker, On Nashata Pond celebrates the area of Nashata Point that juts into Lake Kabetogama. By using the antique map, dated 1849 which shows the historic lands of the native Ojibwe and Sioux, this helps to focus on the fact that the wolf was and is well established in the Voyageur area.
